Natural Running

The Flow Running Project was born out of a love of running and a commitment to actively seek happiness.  This beautiful sport and activity has often gotten a bad rap.  Too many people have been conditioned to think that running is a high impact and dangerous activity.  Even worse people have been conditioned to thing they are inherently broken.  This may be the most impactful of all, and it could not be farther from the truth.

From a design standpoint, humans are a perfect feat of engineering.  Whether you believe in evolution or creation, you gotta believe you were born to run.  Running in itself is not the problem, but how we run that has caused so many issues.  Many factors have lead to this, and through this site we hope to explore what has taken us away from the very natural sensation of running, and how do we reconnect with it.

The following is a great statement from our friends at Newton Running;  “Natural running is the way the human body was meant to run in its purest form-namely, barefoot-across a solid surface.  That means running with efficient mechanics centered around landing lightly on the mid-foot/forefoot (the ball of the foot, bot not the toes) and quickly sensing them, lifting your foot off the ground instead of pushing off with excessive muscular force.  Practicing natural running form can be simple, but it may take time to unlearn old habits and learn proper technique.  Ultimately, natural running can help make a runner stronger, more efficient and less prone to over-use injuries.”
